The Venturers returned on the 22nd of August to prepare for their trip away to Ventact South held in Kilcully, Co. Cork. The night began with a hike out at the board walk followed by a surprise barbecue for Leader Matty Fleming who is heading off to Australia. The venturers were joined by scouting leaders from other sections. We wish Matty and his family all the best on the new adventure. The group met on Friday evening for a fun packed weekend in Cork where they linked up with over 300 venturers from all over the country. Activities on the weekend included Boot Camp, Kayaking and sailing along with zip wire and high rope climbing followed by a themed disco. Great time was had by all, plans are now under way for this term including camps, first aid, manual handling and planning for the gate way and alter fire at our campsite.
6 Venturers headed off to the log cabin on March 31st for 4 days. A number of hikes were completed which included using their map reading and compass skills. On Sunday the venturers were dropped at Lettercross roads and made their way back to the log cabin only using the map, a little bit of learning definitely took place when they realised short cuts do not always work out. The group headed off on Monday morning up Carrolls Hill heading along the ridge over to Clear Lake before making their way back to the log cabin down Still Brook Hill. It was a very successful camp with the venturers completely responsible for all aspects of the 4 days.
Congratulations to the Venture Scouts for winning a prize for their float in the Clara St. Patrick’s Day parade, it was a great job, well done. It was great to have the return of Venture Scouts in 2nd Offaly marked on the day.
Venturers meet Tuesday nights from 7 – 9
