Each section is busy with the planning of events and camps for later in the year. The Beavers and Cubs have been swimming along with planned overnights taking place shortly. The Scout section is preparing to head up the Log Cabin for a weekend while the Ventures are planning on climbing Croagh Patrick along with training for their 50km hike over three days for their Silver Gaisce.

Return of all sections after the summer break

All sections have now returned after the summer break. The year kicked off with the venturers planning a surprise barbecue for Leader Matty Fleming who is heading off to Australia, we would like to wish Matty and his family the very best of luck.

The first camp of the year will take place on the weekend of the 28th September for a leaders skills training weekend at the log cabin, Kinnitty. The scout section will be heading to Kinnitty on the 12th of October for their first camp of the year while the cubs and beavers are busy settling in new members and starting work on the One Programme.

2nd Offaly PAL Leaders link in with Local School for Gaisce.

2 PAL leaders of the 2nd Offaly Scout Unit have linked in with Ard Scoil Chiarain Noafa to assist 18 students from 5th year to complete their Adventure Journey. The journey began with the students in conjunction with the leaders planning the route which was split over 2 days covering a distance over 25k. The students met at the scout den on Saturday morning of the 28th of April to board a bus which took them to the starting point. The route for day 1 was to hike along the grand canal from Pullough to Tullamore. A number of teams games, a movie and a night hike with some star gazing before heading off to sleep under canvas (for the first time for the majority). The second morning began with cooking breakfast, cleaning up and heading off from the den out the Clara road to the Mass Rock continuing on to the board walk and back by the wooded area (lots of tree felling at present). All 18 students have now completed their Bronze Gaisce Award which they will receive in October at a special Cermony, well done to all involved.

2nd Offaly Leaders will attend National Council April 30th – 31st

Leaders Training

4 of our leaders took part in Level 1 (Welcome to Scouting) and Level 2 (Child Protection) training on the 11th of February in Roscrea scout den. Level 4 training was undertaken by 1 leader with 3 of our leaders helping with the level 4 training in Shrahan on the 18th February. Further training will be undertaken by leaders in the coming months to maintain professional development within the group.
