This is where we will keep parents and guardians posted about what’s happening, so there will always be a place to find the information when notes go astray 🙂
Subs
Subs are €3 a week, and must be paid even when your child misses a week. If your child misses more than 3 weeks in a row without reason they are considered to have left Cubs.
Who can join Cubs?
Cub Scouts are for boys and girls aged 9 – 12
When are the cub meetings?
We meet on Fridays from 19:00 – 20:30. We meet in Jim Kirwan Scout Hall, on Bridge Street, Clara
See where we are on Google Street View
Uniform
Cubs must wear their uniforms (the cub jumper, 2nd Offaly’s neckerchief and a woggle, all of which must be bought), navy trousers and dark shoes. When we are doing particularly messy things we’ll let the cubs know they should bring something old to cover up with.
What are these SPICES I keep hearing about?
The SPICES are part of the new programme for Scouting we will be working with from this Spetember. Scouts have always tried to ensure that every member of scouts – from Beaver scout to leader – develops as a complete person. We aim to look after the Social Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spirtual wellbeing of everyone involved.
What are badges?
Badges change this year (2011) because we have formally started with a new programme. Cubs will get badges for achieving goals in 3 main areas:
- Personal skills (divided into social, environmental, physical, skills and community involvement)
- Activities (like pioneering, camping, and hillwalking for example, tradition outdoor based scout activities)
- Objectives set by their Cub programme.
They also have the option of going for the Chief Scout Award, which is a tough but rewarding achievement.
